Climbing FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
I HAVE NEVER CLIMBED BEFORE -- HOW DO I START?
Great! High Altitude Fitness welcomes beginners and pros alike. First thing's first -- safety. You will want to fill out our online waiver and set up your profile here.
You DO NOT need to know how to belay to climb at our facility. However, if you intend to climb with a partner, using the ropes, you will need to be belay certified. We offer six TRU BLU auto belay systems. See how they work here.
DO I NEED TO HAVE MY OWN GEAR?
We offer rental gear at the front desk! Shoe sizes range from children's size 3/4 to Adult size 15. (Adult sizes are unisex).
CAN I BORROW MY FRIEND’S OLD GEAR?
Old shoes are fine to borrow; however, borrowing old safety gear including harnesses, ropes and carabiners or belay devices are not recommended.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear clothes that are comfortable and allow movement. Bulky items and sweatshirts should be removed while you fit your harness.
SHOULD I WEAR SOCKS WITH MY RENTAL SHOES?
Wearing socks is required with rental shoes.
Are there any age requirements at your facility?
High Altitude Fitness believes children are an important part of the climbing community. We want age appropriate children to have fun while keeping safety and the safety of other climbers as the top priority. Direct Supervison of minors under 16 will be strictly enforced.
Primarily we are a climbing gym oriented towards people over the age of 5, with some exceptions. Taking children into the climbing areas is dangerous and can cause a hazardous situation for both the child and other climbers. If you bring children to High Altitude Fitness please be extremely careful, and observe the following rules.
Minors under the age of 16 are not permitted in any fitness areas (e.g., weight room, cardio room, functional fitness room, fitness studios).
Minors under the age of 16 must be actively monitored and accompanied in the climbing gym at all times by their parent/legal guardian; keeping children within arms length at all times.
There must be a 2:1 non-climbing adult to child ratio for children under 16.
The minimum age for climbing is 5 years old. The sport and bouldering area can be a dangerous place for small children. We encourage parents to go into the bouldering area and spot their child if they are under the age of 10. Any child in the climbing area must be within arms reach.
Children under the age of 5 are not permitted in the climbing areas (on the mats). If you are bringing your child to a group or event please consider not bringing younger siblings as this facility is not a playground.
What if I have never climbed before?
Never climbed before, no problem. We offer several clinics and privates for learning the ropes including but not limited to auto belay training and required orientations, top rope, lead and bouldering lessons, and we offer youth programs for ages 5-18.
